Start Here If You’re New

Welcome. We’re glad you found us.

If you’ve landed here, there’s a decent chance you’ve been at this before — tried to eat healthier, started a diet, given up, started another one, given up again. Or maybe you’re looking around because something changed and you can’t put it off anymore. Or maybe you’re just curious whether all this “whole food” talk actually means anything different from the last trend.

Whichever one is true for you, you’re in the right place. This site isn’t another diet, and we’re not going to ask you to commit to anything before you understand what we’re actually about.

What this site is

Eat Real Again is a recipe site and a guide to eating mostly whole, minimally processed foods — vegetables, fruits, quality proteins, healthy fats, and whole grains. This is what’s often called Mediterranean-style eating, and it’s the pattern researchers consistently find in the healthiest, longest-lived populations on earth. It’s not a brand, not a system, not a trend — just the pattern that keeps showing up when scientists look at what actually works.

What the Research Shows

A comprehensive overview in the Journal of Internal Medicine (2021) examined decades of research on Mediterranean-style eating patterns. Across studies, higher adherence to this pattern is consistently associated with longer lifespan and lower rates of the chronic diseases that shorten it — cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, and cognitive decline. The pattern shows up so consistently across populations and study designs that researchers describe the evidence as among the strongest in modern nutrition science.

We’re a couple — Eva Marie and EJ — who got tired of contradictory diet advice and decided to just look at what the research actually says. What we found was surprisingly consistent: real ingredients, cooked at home most of the time, without obsessing about perfection.

That’s it. That’s the whole idea.

What this site isn’t

We want to be honest about this up front, because if you’ve been burned before, you deserve to know what you’re walking into.

This isn’t a diet. There’s no plan to follow, no calories to count, no foods that are forever off-limits. Some foods are an everyday thing; some are an occasional thing. That’s the framework, and it’s the whole framework.

This isn’t a paid program or a subscription site. The recipes, guides, and tools are free. A free account lets you save favorites, plan meals, and build shopping lists — but there’s no paywall to use our site’s features. You’ll occasionally see affiliate links to products we actually use — those help cover the cost of running the site. Full disclosure here.

This isn’t about perfection. We eat birthday cake. We’ve had bad weeks. The point isn’t to be perfect — the point is that most of the time, you’re eating real food.

We’re not doctors. We’re not dietitians or nutritionists either. We’re two people who do the reading, cite our sources, and try to be honest about what we know and what we don’t. For anything specific to your health, talk to someone qualified.

The simplest possible starting point

If everything else on this site disappeared tomorrow, here’s the one thing we’d want you to take with you:

Eat mostly whole, minimally processed foods. Cook at home when you can. Don't stress about the rest.

That’s the entire philosophy. The recipes, the guides, the tier system, the lenses — all of it just helps you do that thing a little more easily.

You don’t have to commit to anything yet

The best next step is the smallest possible one: just take a look at what real food actually is.
