Day One: Down the Rabbit Hole We Go…
Welcome to Eat Real Again.
If you’re reading this, maybe you’re where we were not too long ago—standing in the kitchen, staring at a cabinet full of boxes and bags, wondering how it all got so complicated. Or maybe you’re sitting in a drive-thru line for the third time this week, telling yourself you’ll “start eating better on Monday.”
We’ve been there. For years.
If you want to know our full story—the health struggles, the wake-up call, and what finally made us change—head over to our About Us page. The short version? We realized we could either take time to eat right, or we might be cutting our time short altogether.
The Big Realization
Here’s what surprised us most: we didn’t have to give up the foods we love.
We thought eating “healthy” meant saying goodbye to burgers, pizza, creamy pasta, and chocolate. Turns out, it just meant learning to make them differently. A smash burger with real beef on a whole grain bun? Still delicious. Homemade pizza with whole wheat crust and fresh toppings? Even better than delivery. Fudgy brownies sweetened with honey and coconut sugar? My husband didn’t even notice the swap.
The secret wasn’t elimination—it was transformation.
Listening to Our Bodies Again
One of the most important changes hasn’t been about what we eat, but how we eat.
For years, we ignored our body’s signals. We ate when we were bored, stressed, or just because the clock said it was time. We cleaned our plates because that’s what we were taught to do, even when we were already full.
Now we’re learning to listen again. Hungry? We eat. Full? We stop. It sounds so simple, but after decades of overriding those signals, it’s taken real practice.
Where to Start
Today, I built this website from scratch—which feels fitting, since that’s exactly how we’re approaching our meals now. Here’s what you’ll find:
Food Philosophy — The research-backed approach guiding our journey. Start here if you want to understand why we eat this way, what foods to embrace, what to minimize, and how to put it all together.
Pantry Swaps — Our kitchen bible. Real ingredient swaps for all the processed stuff—whole wheat flour instead of white, honey instead of sugar, avocado oil instead of vegetable oil, and more.
How to Get the Most Out of This Site — A quick guide to the features we’ve built in, like “Make It From Scratch” links, shopping lists, and recipe organization.
Recipes — The whole point! Real food that actually tastes good.
Join Us?
This isn’t about perfection. Some days we nail it; other days we don’t. But every meal made with real ingredients is a step in the right direction.
If any of this resonates with you, I hope you’ll stick around. Browse the recipes. Try a few. Let me know what works and what doesn’t.
We’re just getting started, and honestly? I have no idea exactly where this road leads. But for the first time in a long time, I’m excited to find out.
Here’s to eating real again.
